Meet the Teacher

Onto snowday #5 in Kansas- officially going into June for school. WOO HOO! :) haha.....

I was SO excited to find this teacher link party.  I can't wait to find more awesome teachers to follow in blogland! Check it out:

Brief Biography:

Hi! My name's Megan and I teach full-day Kindergarten.  I was born in Dallas, TX, moved to Greenville, SC, and then here to Kansas City in 1999.

I graduated from K-State (Kansas State University) in December of '08, taught 3rd grade as a long term sub in the spring, had no job lined up for the fall... was called 48 hours prior to school starting to teach 1/2 day K.  Had never had my own room before so very QUICKLY threw together a K room (a grade I swore I'd never teach!) I had the most amazing year teaching AM K to a wonderful and small group of 8! That job ended with the economy and obviously low numbers, and was hired to teach full day K in an awesome district at an amazing school- with an EXTREMELY challenging (behavioral, academically, you name it) group of 23 Kindergarteners.  Needless to say, I've learned a LOT this year!

I met my husband, Chris, the summer after high school in 2005- we started dating the first day of freshmen year at KSU and were married in June of 2009.  We promptly adopted our yellow lab, Scout, after our honeymoon and have been busy, busy with our first home, a small ranch in a suburb of KC.

(our house being painted)

I am a pet-lover, and currently have our dog, 2 rabbits (Josephine and Oliver), 2 turtles (Petri and Franklin- who I got in 2nd grade!) and a fish, Chuck. :)

Q: What would you be doing if you weren’t a teacher?

A: Oh wow, good question- probably something with animals ( I wanted to be a vet for years), something with art/creativity, or something in the medical field with kids.

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: Spending time with friends and family (game nights!), crafting, blogging, shopping (deal shopper), decorating, cooking (getting better), teaching- always looking for new ideas, my dumb TV shows (teen mom, bachelor, greys, office)

Q: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: Veternarian

Q: What are your guilty pleasures?

A: Dr. Pepper, anything mocha-flavored, chocolate, Teen Mom/anything on MTV, hilarious court shows, Lifetime movies (typically on snowdays) ;)

Q: What is your biggest fear?!

A: Stomach flu- yuck.

Q: When you’re on vacation, where do you like to go?

A: 5 letters: B E A C H- don't care where. Chris and I love to cruise and will be on one in less than 6 weeks! :)

Q: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

A: My mom's always told me I can do anything I put my mind to. True story. :)

Q: What do you value most in others?

A: Humor- I love laughing and people with a good sense of humor I completely click with. I also value originality and the unique things about people that they aren't afraid to show.

Q: If you could choose one of your personality traits to pass down to your kids, what would it be?

A: High-achiever-syndrome- I PRAY my kids love school...

Q: If you could have lunch with anyone in the world….living or dead…who would it be?

A: Jesus- I'd have a lot to ask!

Now tell us one random thing about yourself:

Every year for lent, I give up all caffeine, sweets, junk food, you name it. Not sure if I'll be able to give up the Dr. Pepper this year with my group I have at school. :)
